Cécile Léonie Akame Mfoumou Elected President of Cameroon Red Cross Society

She beat her challenger, Abdousalam Mahaman, by 31 votes to 27 during the general assembly meeting that held on August 21, 2017 in Yaounde.

Mrs. Cécile Léonie Akame Mfoumou emerged victorious as the new President of the Cameroon Red Cross Society during the elective General Assembly that held in Yaounde on August 21, 2017. The wife of former Finance Minister, Edouard Akame Mfoumou, recorded 31 votes as against 27 for her challenger, Abdousalam Mahaman.

Mrs. Akame Mfoumou replaces late William Aurélien Eteki Mboumoua who died on October 26, 2016. Mrs. Akame Mfoumou was a member of the former Board of the Cameroon Red Cross Society. Amongst her initial four challengers in the hotly contested election, was former Minister of Social Affairs, Dr. Marie-Madeleine Fouda. However, three candidates declined the final tussle, leaving only Mrs. Akame Mfoumou and Abdousalam Mahaman to vie for the seat.

The Cameroon Red Cross Society was established on April 30, 1960 with headquarters in the capital city, Yaounde.
