The election commission in Liberia says 274 names have been removed from voters’ list

Monrovia, 22 Dec. 2017  – The national election commission of Liberia on Wednesday told a press conference that 274 voters have been removed from the voters’ registration list because of duplication.

“A total of 274 voters have been removed from the voter roll due to duplication.” Jerome Korkoya told journalists.

The Supreme Court recently mandated the elections commission to make sure all conflicting names in the FRR be cleaned up.

“998 voters were flagged as those sharing multiple IDs. Further analysis of these voters show that 158 of the 998 voters where resolved without having to issue new voters IDs, but 87 of them had to be deleted from the roll because their OMR forms were scanned twice, which resulted in the multiplicity of the voters IDs in the roll.” Korkoya said.

According to the NEC boss, removing the 158 voters that were recorded twice, reduces 998 voters to 840 voters.

“The 840 records are shared by 420 voters, therefore new voter IDs were created for 420 records; so that all the 840 records now have distinct Voter IDs.” He said.

This has brought out new FRR according to the head of the national election commission. “With the foregoing, the new FRR is now 2,183,268 voters.” He ended.
