Liberia’s president Sirleaf says her vice president is engaged in “hit messages”

Monrovia, 30 Oct. 17  – The president of Liberia said in a statement Monday that accusation made by three opposition parties Sunday is a hit message intended to disrupt the peace process  in Liberia.

On Sunday October 29, while the Liberian leader was celebrating her birthday, the ruling party led by her Vice President, together with the Liberty party and the All Liberian Party, held a press conference to accuse the president of manipulating the elections.

In her reaction Monday, President Sirleaf, in a statement read by her press secretary, said that the UP is involved in hit messages.

“The office of the president has learned with deep regret and disappointment, grave allegation levied by representatives of the Unity party, the Liberty party and the All Liberian party against the president of the republic of Liberia. The office of the president wishes to state equivocally that these messages contained in a special statement delivered by the three parties are completely baseless, and are an unfortunate attempt by agent provocateurs to undermine Liberia’s democratic process.” Jerolinmeh Piah, press secretary to the President said as he read the statement.

The statement farther indicated that at no time the president of Liberia interfered in the electoral process.

“These allegations fall in the category of false speech and inciting language and should be condemned by all peace loving Liberians. We like to be specifically clear that at no time President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf interferes with the electoral process or the outcome of the results of the 2017 general and presidential elections. All meetings, interactions, or exchanges between the office of the president and the National elections commissions were consistent with her constitutional right to insure that the electoral process fair, and such act was initiated at the request of the election commission and never held secretly but in the presence of all, on some occasions in the presence of international partners who themselves remain concerned about Liberia’s progress.” Jerolenmiah Piah said.
