Liberia’s runoff election scheduled for December 26

Monrovia, 13 December 2017 – The national elections commission of Liberia has scheduled the long-awaited runoff election for December 26, 2017. Speaking to journalists in Monrovia, the chairman of the elections commission everything was set for that day.

   “Pursuance of the honorable Supreme mandate court to the elections commission, I am pleased to announce that the 2017 presidential runoff elections will be conducted on Tuesday December 26, 2017.” Jerome Korkoya said.

    Realizing that the date is so closed to Christmas, Jerome Korkoya asked all Liberians to make that sacrifice in the name of democracy.

    “We realize that this day is immediately after Christmas day, we call on all registered voters to make that one sacrifice, for the love of our democracy. Accordingly, campaign for the runoff elections is hereby opened, and will close at 11.59 PM on Sunday December 24, 2017. We call on the two political parties in the runoff elections, the Unity Party and the Coalition for Democratic Change, to go about their campaigns in a peaceful manner.” Jerome Korkoya said.

    He also disclosed that a technical team from the Ecowas to help correct the mistakes from the first round.

     “I am also pleased to announce that the Ecowas technical team that review our final voter roll, will be returning to the country today, to provide any technical assistance needed with the implementation of the mandate of the honorable Supreme Court.” Korkoya said.
