Liberia’s Supreme Court sustain Liberty Party’s writ of prohibition

Monrovia, 6 Nov. 17 – The Supreme Court in Liberia on Monday unanimously decided to sustain the writ of prohibition filed in by the Liberty party of Charles Brumskine thus halting the holding of the runoff election until the election commission investigates the Liberty party’s complaint and hands down a ruling.

“The writ of prohibition is hereby sustained.” The full bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia decided on Monday.

Following the first round of election in Liberia the Liberty party filed a complaint to the National Election Commission, asking the commission for rerun “due to irregularities and frauds.”

NEC did not give any ruling on the matter until the date of the runoff was given. Liberty Party then decided to go to the Supreme Court to have the election halted through a writ of prohibition.

The NEC was asked by the court to speedily go through the Liberty party complaint and have a ruling as soon as possible.
